9 weeks - green olive

9 weeks - Tuesday, September 18, 2013

(and yes, I have a lululemon obsession - I need an intervention)
Little Baby Ball is the size of a green olive now! Check out the picture! As long as I can find the fruit/veggie then we're taking our pictures that way!

Weight gain?  I think maybe 1 pound.  That's today, we'll see if it sticks!

Good news?!  I have more energy!! The constant need to nap has gone away some, and I've had more energy over the past week.  This past weekend we had a girlfriend's bachelorette party and a couple girls and I cooked for all 16 people.  So after grocery shopping, cooking, and then having a weekend with girls, I was pretty tired by Monday.  Check out the cute girls - how adorable are they?!

Luckily, I have the best husband ever who made dinner so that I could relax!

On side news, I now have an aversion to cooked meat.  It started over labor day when I couldn't stand the smell of a brisket at my mother-in-laws house.  I thought it was because we had just had brisket, but I guess not.  This weekend I cooked pulled pork at our house and then we put it in the car for the hour drive to the bachelorette party, I was nauseous (for one of the first times) because of the smell.  I was able to eat a little bit that night, but definitely none for leftovers.   I really hope this goes away, because I'm definitely not a vegetarian!!!

I'm starting to look at cribs, any ideas?  Do you go for the adorable Pottery Barn ones on Craig's List or a cheaper one new?  I'm waiting for the Baby Bargains book to arrive, I'm hoping it has some pointers!!

8 Weeks - What about Crossfit?

Tuesday, September 11, 2012

Today marks 8 weeks!  Baby Ball is the size of a RASPBERRY! (why is it always fruit?) This coming weekend I have a bachelorette party for a great friend, and so I knew I had to get the secret out there otherwise it was going to come at the most inopportune time at a bachelorette party when I obviously wasn't drinking.  So, this past weekend I told 3 different girlfriends at lunches/breakfasts.  It was great!!!  I'm beginning to make phone calls on the way home from work each day as well and tell people close to us who live far away.  I think if we continue this way, then by the time the first trimester is done, everyone will know.  So maybe we like to "spill the beans" earlier than we should, but hey - it's our baby/our decision, right? :)

I feel like my body is changing like crazy, but it might just be in my head.  I got on the scale this morning and I still weigh the same.  I don't know how I feel I look different with zero pounds added, but that's how it seems!!

The main question of the week has been "What about Crossfit?!"  I think that people hear Crossfit and think that I'm continuing to work really hard and die of sweat, and blood, and tears by the end.... well, I'm pregnant, so that's not the case AT ALL. But yes, I'm still doing Crossfit!!  Here's how it works.

I can't get my heart rate up.

I can't get out of breath.

I can't lift very much weight.

I can't go very fast.

BUT - here's what I CAN do:

- go through the motions, lift some weight, keep my body moving, see great friends, have a chat or two along the way, workout next to my husband - which is awesome, drink lots of water, and STILL be sore the next day.

At first I was very unmotivated.   I thought "you mean I can't do anything?, what's the fun in that?"  but then I realized that at least I'm doing something, and I feel great every time I leave "the Cave".

Even more fun is that Crossfit Caveman just switched to Advanced, Intermediate, Scaled (within the same class), so for the most part I just choose the scaled one and go from there.

7 Weeks

Tuesday, September 4 - 7 weeks

This weekend was soo wonderful!  We got to tell the immediate family our big news!  Everyone was thrilled and we are so happy!  We gave them each pictures that said "the best parents get promoted to grandparents".  Since Dave's parents are already grandparents it took them a minute to figure out they were going to be grandparents again!  Fun news.

Nausea?  I've started feeling an itty bitty bit nauseous, but it's really nothing.  If I don't eat something then I feel like something is off but it's not really nausea.  So, I eat something and it goes away.  Pretty lucky if you ask me!!

Cravings? Um, brisket smelled awful when it was cooking and the thought of it was terrible.  I hope that doesn't happen again!

Weight?  Still hasn't changed.

Looking forward to?  I'm really looking forward to being past the first trimester so these fears of loss can go away.  And then, everyone can know the exciting stuff!

Oh, and here's a fun little picture taken this weekend :)  oh yeah, and one of my crazy husband.

6 Weeks (again)

August 30, 2012 - 6 weeks (2nd time around)

Today when we went to the doctor we thought we were 7 weeks, but the doctor said that I probably don't ovulate on a normal schedule because I'm measuring small.. soo.. I'm 6 weeks today.

Dave and I went to the doctor and we saw the most amazing thing, a fluttering heartbeat!!!  It was incredible!  We are VERY excited and now have a due date of April 23, 2013.

Tomorrow we fly to Kansas City where we'll be with both sets of parents and we can't wait to tell them!

What's new this week?  I'm still exhausted, and I have a cold.  Those two things together have made this a very tough week.  I feel like all I'm doing is either sleeping or thinking about when I get to sleep again.  I hear this should stop once you hit the 2nd trimester.

It's hard to tell in the picture because little Baby Ball is only 5mm big, but.. there it is!

5 weeks

This blog is like a journal for us, so I want to remember all of this! My mom said she knew the next day she was pregnant, and although that didn't happen for me, it was pretty darn close to that.  What did I feel? Tired, cranky, crampy, on cloud 9.  I kept apologizing to Dave for being cranky and he just kept saying "boy or girl"?

How did we find out? I got off a plane in Wisconsin to see 25 of my family members and I said Dave, please stop at walgreens, I need a test.  We saw the faintest line and knew it was true.  I ran into the lodge and told my parents and sister. I spent the rest of the vacation trying to not seem distracted and to keep my secret in. So far, they all still don't know!

Soo.. Today is August 14. I'm just under 5 weeks along.

How far along?  Just under 5 weeks :)
Total weight gain/loss?  Starting weight -120 pounds.
Maternity clothes?  No
Stretch marks? No
Sleep?  Thank goodness I have the month of August off, I'm exhausted!
Best moment last week? Seeing a positive test!
Movement?  Of course this thing is smaller than an apple seed right now, but I feel lots of cramping. I guess it's my uterus expanding and stuff attaching to walls.
Food cravings?  Opposite of cravings, not much sounds good because I get full so fast! Ive read that your digestion slows down to pull in nutrients, I'm going to have to learn to eat slower.
Gender?
Labor signs?
Belly button in/out?
What I miss: A good glass of red wine with dinner!
What I am looking forward to: My doc appointment August 30, telling everyone this secret!!
Milestones:

Can't wait to post this!

Pinterest - what works and what... doesn't?

Pinterest – what works and what …. Doesn’t?
What works:
Shredded chickenhttp://www.theburlapbag.com/2012/03/shred-chicken-fast-in-a-mixer/ boil your chicken and then throw it in the Kitchenaid mixer and there you go, perfectly shredded chicken for all your yummy chicken dishes.

Shelf instead of headboard – my lovely husband saw this picture….

And then made this… (not going to lie, I kind of like ours even more!)
(The shelf is decorated now )
Crown molding added to bathroom mirror
One year anniversary picture within a picture

http://pinterest.com/pin/147070744050992565/– works pretty well, well… unless there’s weird hairy European men in Speedos in Spain and shadows and squinting, etc.  But ours didn’t turn out soo bad, right?

Buffalo Chicken Wraps – Yum! These are yummy.

http://pinterest.com/pin/147070744050980857/  Be sure to spray pam all over them, if you miss a spot – it’s not good.
Green Onions growing in a glass – it works!!! They’ll keep on growing!!  Just put them in a glass of water.  This was after just a few days.
                                                                      (Before)

                                                            (after)
What does NOT work:
“cookie dough” from chick peas – rumor has it that stuff is awful!!
Tissue paper coaster something – note to self, don’t EVER try to put tissue paper through your printer.  It will end with you and your husband taking apart your entire printer and then the printer never working quite right again.
Chalkboard stuff – all the cute chalkboard stuff would be really cute,  if everyone in the world had cute handwriting.. Guess what, we don’t.
Foil for bacon grease -

http://pinterest.com/pin/147070744051299832/  This kind of works.. You have to let it cool some before putting it in there otherwise it goes through the foil.  By the time I let it “cool” it’s 3 hours later and I’m stuck with the hard mess of bacon grease.
What about you?  What works and what… doesn’t?

6 week Bran Muffins

This is one of those recipes that just reminds me of grandma's house.  It's so simple and makes for easy mornings!  You make a huge thing of batter once and put it in the fridge and it lasts 6 WEEKS!  Then you just bake however much you want and it's perfect for quick mornings!

What you need:
  • 1 - 15 ounce package raisin bran cereal
  • 5 cups flour
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 5 tespoons baking soda
  • 3 cups sugar
  • 4 beaten eggs
  •  1 cup melted shortening
  • 1 quart buttermilk

Pur raisin bran in very large mixing bowl.

Sift together 5 cups flour, 2 teaspoons salt, 5 teaspoons baking soda and add to cereal.
Add 3 cups sugar, mix all dry ingredients together.

Beat 4 eggs and add to mixture.

Add melted shortening (1cup) to mixture and buttermilk (1 quart/4 cups).  (tip: if you don't have buttermilk, add 1 Tablespoon of white vinegar per cup of milk)

Mix all ingredients together.

Grease and fill muffin cups 2/3 of the way full.  Bake 12-15 minutes at 400 degrees.

All leftover batter can stay in fridge (covered) for up to 6 weeks! Enjoy!!
