7 weeks old!

We had a great week!  Many of the things I didn't take pictures of though, darn!!

On Tuesday night, several girls and I went and saw the musical, FlashDance.  We had so much fun, and wow - those dancers were incredible.  I wish I had half the energy they do!!

On Wednesday, I got cleared to workout, woohoo!! I had started working out at about 4.5 weeks, I couldn't stay home any longer.  I tried to take it easy, but it's hard not to go high intensity.  Well, I now have zero restrictions and everything healed properly, so I'm good to go!  Yay!!

One thing that is frustrating though, is I'm back to day one as far as the weights go.  I'm doing less weight on some things than I was 9 months pregnant.  On other things, I'm doing better than expected.  I'm just happy to be back in the gym.

Squat cleans after I was cleared to workout!

James still isn't really smiling, but I think he's getting close.  Every once in awhile I see one of these :)

We call Buddy nanny Buddy, he's always looking after James.

I don't know if this is a Houston baby with no clothes on, or after he spit up on the 4th outfit, I decided he could stay in his diaper for awhile..

Nanny Buddy... and naked baby.. who HATES tummy time!!

Another "half smile"

We were overdue for the vet with both dogs, I guess having a baby does that.  So I went to the vet with my crazy dogs, and the baby.  Oh dang.  But it actually went pretty well!! I did choose to go two separate days though, wasn't sure about 2 dogs and baby and vet.

Sweet James still loves the monkey.

On other news I'm 6 days in of eating dairy, and 13 days of eating eggs! I know that eggs are no problem!! I don't think dairy is a problem either, YAY!!!  We're still waiting to see though..

Other things this week that I didn't take pictures of...
Neighborhood Crawfish boil Friday night - lots of fun
Date night Saturday night - babysitter did great, again!
Father's Day Sunday

39 Weeks - Watermelon

I can't believe, once again, how far along in the pregnancy I am!  And a WATERMELON? No pregnant woman wants to think about her baby being the size of a watermelon, and labor... oh well.

I think this was bigger than he is, I hope.  I couldn't really hold it with one hand.

So, my doctor who doesn't think I'll go past my due date now has me set up for an ultrasound at 40 weeks to check how baby is doing.  After that she'll induce if he's not doing well or she'll wait until 41 weeks to induce.  I don't like the sound of inducing labor, but I also don't like the sound of still being pregnant in a few weeks!  So, I hope he makes an entrance soon!

This week's appointment said 2.5 cm dilated, 70% effaced, and -1, all of those things are a step in the right direction!

Last week was hard because it was my last week as a teacher for a very long time.  I feel blessed to be able to stay home with him, but right now it just seems odd to not be working and not have a baby here.  It's making the time go by rather slowly!  I will very much miss teaching and who knows, maybe I'll go back to it someday.  We'll see!

I left a wonderful school and really my dream job, they were SO sweet when I left.

Check out the TV monitor!

And look at all the ADORABLE little boy clothes they gave me.  They had given me tons of newborn clothes, so I kept some of them but exchanged for bigger sizes.  If little James is like me then he may never wear newborn clothes.. we'll see!

I think he'll be a preppy boy just like his dad :)

Last night we had another "last date night" at one of our favorite Mexican restaurants, El Tiempo, and of course - forgot to take a pic - oops!

Dave also hung some curtains, doesn't it look better?!

Before..

After..

And I got the privilege of watching our friend's twin boys.. don't the dogs look ready for babies?!?

With not working I have lots more energy and so I've gotten some great workouts in over the last few days.  My doctor still says it's okay, so I'll keep doing it!  I've gained 34 pounds which is still within the suggested 25-35 pounds or 30-40 for underweight..  so 34 at 39 weeks is perfect for me!

35 Weeks - Coconut

35 weeks!

A couple months ago I said that pregnancy goes by sooooo slow.  Well, maybe it doesn't.  To think I've been pregnant since last July does seem like a really long time and once you find out you're pregnant you wait for the first appointment, then you wait to hear the heartbeat, then you wait until 12 weeks to tell everyone (well, maybe..), then you wait to find out the gender, then you wait to get past the late 20s weeks so that you know that if you have the baby everything will be okay... then... it flies!!  I can't believe we're just 5 weeks away from our due date.

This past week we crossed many more things off the to do list.

  • Went on a hospital tour, so now we know where to go once in labor.
  • Hung the mirror in the nursery.
  • Bought most of the things left on our registry.  I still can't believe how generous people are.
  • Packed the hospital bags.. craziness.
  • Bought the rest of the baby bedding, washed it with Dreft, and put it all in the nursery
  • Got all of my sub plans together for school
We have a dresser full of clothes and those are all for Baby Ball, not even all the hand me downs we've gotten!
So I feel like we're ready to go!

I also had a birthday where friends spoiled me, it was very sweet of them.  Dave was in Peru - so jealous!! And my sister sent this very cute package with stuff for me and stuff for baby.

How cute is the blanket she made?  And the "momma's little cowboy"?  And the Mizzou onesies - yes, we will put him in them!
I didn't gain any weight this week, so I'm still at 28 pounds gained which is perfect!

A couple other things from the week:

We got to enjoy the 80 degree weather in Houston.
Dave made it back safely from Peru!!

And our dogs are still adorable.. :)

33 Weeks - Dorian Fruit

Well, I couldn't find a Dorian Fruit this week, so I'm empty handed.

This week has been fun, he's moving!  And I swear I can feel arms and feet and elbows and all.  I don't know what is what but it feels like limbs!

It's Winter Break this week and since it's 80 degrees outside I'm thinking it's more like spring break. But wow has "spring break" changed.  I'm now sitting outside drinking water, reading Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child, meeting pediatricians and going to OB appointments!  I've also gotten to take the cute dogs on some walks!  And still of course working out too!

But.. there are other fun things going on too.  I'm getting a massage on a table with a belly cut out - sweet! I CAN'T WAIT! We're having a  big Crawfish boil baby shower

and...

we worked on the nursery, a lot!

We got our rocker (thanks mom and dad!)

And the changing table is upstairs along with some pictures on the wall and a rug down.  It's not complete, but it's getting there!

The OB appointment went well!  Everything is still on track!

24 Weeks - Cantaloupe

24 Weeks - Cantaloupe

Last week we announced the baby name, James Charles Ball, after both our fathers.  Apparently when I tagged our parents on facebook it looked like the baby had 5 middle names...oops.  We've also had lots of questions of what we call him.  We think James, but some people are already saying Jim Chuck... oh no.

I remember when I was taking pictures with a little green olive, and now a cantaloupe??  One of my main pregnancy cravings has been fruit, so I'm thrilled that this week's cantaloupe will make some yummy breakfasts and snacks!  The other craving this week is pickled okra - yum - I can't get enough of it!!

Weight gain?  Over the past two weeks I think I've gained 4 pounds so that's a total of 19 in the 24 weeks.  I'm a little afraid of that number but hoping that since all I've done is eat and not exercise for Christmas and New Years that that number will soon change a bit!?

We had such a good time with family this past week.  On New Year's Eve Eve we had a fondue party.  It was so much fun!
Habers - New Years Eve Eve

Balls - New Years Eve Eve

Dave and me!

The whole crew!

Habers and Seiters - New Years Eve Eve

We then drove back on New Years Eve (in snow and rain the ENTIRE way with 2 dogs that were PERFECT!!) and made it in time for a friend's New Year's party.  Fun!  I got the oreo balls out of the freezer and they were a hit again.  Please don't notice that I have very few maternity clothes and am wearing the same thing in most pics..

Actual New Years Eve at midnight!  With my non-alcoholic bubbly!

I read on a friend's blog about her 2013 fitness goals.  Obviously, I can't make any huge goals for the next few months but I can make some post baby goals.  Of course first and foremost it's to have a healthy pregnancy, delivery, and baby.  After that though, she said that she wants to do a muscle up.  Read about that here.  That's one impressive goal!!! So, Dave now has that same goal (if  a girl can do it he can too..) and I would like to be able to do a strict pullup.  I got a couple kipping pullups right before I got pregnant and so a strict pullup is a big goal!!  I'd also like to run a half marathon faster than before, sub 2.5 hours.  I can't really work on those goals right now, but I have them for the future and between now and then I'll continue to safely workout while pregnant!

Nursery?  Yay, the blinds are up in the nursery and we've picked bedding!  While fixing up our house we've now officially replaced every set of blinds in the whole house!  We're done!!

We did wainscoting in the nursery, painted it a pretty gray, and went with a moose, bear, buffalo theme.  So the bedding we chose is Dwell Studio Woodland.  It's neutral and has cute foresty animals on it! Super cute.

This week I hope to pick out a crib and get started!

17 weeks - onion - Crossfit and pregnant

17 weeks - Onion!

How cute are Buddy and Callie? I'll think they're interested in me, but really it's the onion.
First and foremost - I am not a doctor and don't claim to be.  I got out of school wayyyy before getting there! :)  I'm just saying what has worked for me while doing Crossfit while pregnant.

When I found out I was pregnant I searched the internet for all Crossfit blogs about how to be pregnant and crossfit.  I found the awesome website www.crossfitmom.com that tells you what you should do during your first trimester, second trimester, and third trimester.  It also showed these movements and how to substitute them. This helped me tremendously, but what I didn't find was every movement and how real women were working on each thing.

Luckily, my awesome coach at Crossfit Caveman had just crossfitted (is that a word?) through her pregnancy. I knew there were a couple other people who were pregnant there too, but I didn't want everyone to know I was pregnant.

By looking at the Crossfit mom website I found out that for my first trimester I was probably good.  I told the coaches so they didn't push me too hard.

The "What to Expect When You're Expecting" Book says that your baby LIKES the change in heart rate and breathing and it emphasizes getting 30 minutes of exercise most days.  Although the whole time I try to maintain a normal heartrate/breathing. Kind of difficult while working out though.  I always make sure I can talk.

Take note that I started Crossfit in January and I got pregnant in July, so I had 6 months of Crossfit beforehand.  I started as a skinny weak girl, so I wasn't RX'ing every movement pre-pregnancy.  I talked about starting crossfit here.

Here's what I have done so far - this doesn't mean it works for everyone!:

First Trimester:
  • I felt very weak and tired (no sickness) just pure exhaustion.  So I lowered the weight/intensity on everything.
  • Continued to do all movements though.
  • Took breaks to keep heart rate from getting too high.
Second Trimester (so far) at 17 weeks:
  • Took breaks to keep heart rate from getting too high. Made sure I can talk during the WOD
  • don't squat below 90 degrees (takes a lot to get used to)
  • burpees - still do them, just much more controlled
  • box jumps - do step ups instead
  • broad jumps - I will sub those out, they're probably "too jumpy"
  • Deadlifts - oddly enough, these feel very difficult because of the "but down, chest up", so I've been subbing them out for something such as KettleBell swings
  • double unders - my double unders are UGLY, and my doctor said not to do anything "too jumpy" so I've done singles instead because they're more controlled and efficient
  • farmer carry - less weight or whatever is comfortable
  • front squat - without being able to squat below 90 my form is awful on the front squat, so I've used a Kettlebell (goblet squat) and just don't squat the whole way
  • goblet squats - do them, just not full depth
  • handstand pushups - Can't do anything upside down (and I hate it/can't do them anyway), so I do seated dumbell push press
  • KettleBell Swings - I had been doing 35 pounds, now I do 25 pounds.
  • Lunges - still feel good, but I've heard these will get difficult
  • overhead squats - attempt with less weight and not full depth
  • power clean - do from hang position
  • prowler push - I don't do this anymore, there's no way to keep your heart rate down during that
  • Pullups - I could do a few kipping pullups pre-pregnancy, I then moved to purple band, then red band, and now I'm at blue band.
  • push press/shoulder press - still do, just less weight (about 75%) - which is 35/45 pounds rather than 55.. like I said, skinny weak girl to start :)
  • pushups - still comfortable for me, recently switched to knees
  • ring dips - maintained current band
  • row - still do, just not for time
  • run - still do, just no sprinting
  • situps - the scale is knees to elbows, but I hate those so I'm doing russian twists
  • slam ball - still do full depth, just slower and only 10 pounds
  • snatches - attempt with less weight, hang position
  • sumo deadlift high pull - use kettlebell and don't go full depth
  • supermans - I do them on the GHD (and I actually do about 20 at the end of each class to strengthen my back)
  • toes to bar - still attempting to do them, I can do a few in a row
  • wall balls - still do, just not full squat
  • wall climbs - nothing inverted (and let's be honest.. I hate being upside down), so I've done what looks like a backward inchworm
So - what did I forget? I hope this helps somebody who is newly pregnant and I'll continue to update with what I've changed through pregnancy!

At the end of each workout I've done a bunch of pullups because we're doing a 1000 pullup challenge for November and the GHD supermans.

Our coaches and my husband have been WONDERFUL and very supportive the entire time.  They make alternate WODs for workouts that involve all sprinting or rows for time or the team WOD of dodgeball....

As far as what we've been up to this week?  We chose baby names, yay!  We find out next week if it's a boy or a girl and now that we know the names I'm super excited for either!

Dave was at deer camp with the boys so I hung out with the girls.  We went and watched the A&M (woohoo they beat Alabama!) and a guy at the bar tried to buy us all shots.. thank goodness I had an excuse this time ;)!

While the hubby was away.. I.. painted..and painted..and painted!  The nursery is coming along!  I made the mistake and sent a pic of the paint to the boys.. they flipped.  After they researched it all, they told me I was good and I was back to painting!  I wore gloves, opened the windows, used latex paint, and turned on the fan! I was good to go!  Remember here when we started the wainscoting?

The room all prepped and ready for paint.

                                                           Here it's almost painted.
We still need to the doors and trim around the doors.  And I'm trying to pick the perfect gray color.. we'll see!
